Music Icon – B2K Reunion: Lessons Learned from Omarion

Music Icon – Omari Grandberry

I know it’s 2019, but does anyone remember that one artist who really caught the ears of listeners?…

You know that one kid who was the lead singer in B2K. Come on, you know that guy who made “Ice Box”, “Touch”, and “Post to be”?

If you guessed Omarion, then you’re right on target. Funny enough, there was a time when Omarion was always making lots of noise. Luckily, with the B2K Reunion, that time has returned!

For today’s post, I will explore some of the lessons I’ve learned from Omarion and how he stays successful low key.

Music Icon – Remain True to Yourself

Although he’s evolved as a person, after nearly 20 years in the game Omarion has found a way to stay true to himself.

Even dating back to the early days of B2K, his branding and style has remained consistent in the sense that his fans will always know what they are going to get.

By staying unique to who he is, he remains relatable to those who support him and an icon to his loyal super fans.

Music Icon – Stay Humble

Although he’s not at the top with Chris Brown anymore in terms of musical notoriety, Omarion is comfortable with who he is and he’s working hard to get back to that level.

He knows that his success is dependent on how he operates as an artist. Therefore he remains humble and thankful for his current situation.

Music Icon – Recognize and Operate Within Your Lane

As an artist, in today’s world of social media and global connectivity, it’s important to understand where you fit in.

Although he’s experimented and advanced his style a bit, Omarion’s music is a mix of traditional rhythm and blues (RnB) fused with some of the newer style of contemporary RnB.

When listening to his Care Package EP series, I noticed him trying out new sounds, but still keeping the Omarion style of music apparent.

Music Icon – Stay on Your Hustle

Lastly, although he’s been signed to a major label the past few years, I can’t help but get an independent vibe from Omarion.

The guy stays doing shows, operates in the background, and hasn’t really been the primary focus of  the major labels he’s worked with in recent years.

Instead, he kind of does his own thing and works with the labels as needed.

With all of his talent, I think Omarion is one of those extremely underrated artists who will make you go “Wow” if you ever take the time to see him.

It feels like he has been around forever, but surprisingly enough he’s only 34.
